Reflections of an Older American

I am amazed at how so many people 50 years old and younger (typically identified as the Post-Modern generations) seem to be disengaged with world events and apathetic about what is going on in the U.S. This includes folks who identify themselves as Christians or as being religious. It is as though the ‘under 50s’ have simply checked out of society due to selfish, narcissistic tendencies or because they feel disenfranchised with the establishment and authorities.

Wake up Post-Moderns!!!!!! Every generation feels this way in their youth but they usually come to their senses when they grow up, get married and start having families. They realize that the future is more about their kids than about themselves so they get involved in making a difference in America.

Maybe the disconnection and lack of engagement is a result of one of the following factors:

• Not having true faith in God and Jesus Christ
  • The percentage of people living their lives based on Biblical principles has eroded tremendously during the past 70 years
    • The beliefs of 65% of those 69 and older are based on the Bible
    • The beliefs of 35% of those 50 to 69 are based on the Bible
    • The beliefs of only 16% of those 31 to 50 are based on the Bible
    • The beliefs of ONLY 4% of those 18 to 31 are based on the Bible
  • If you have no basis for truth (The Bible) then moral relativity guides your life (Rom 1:21-22). This translates to truth is what an individual wants it to be, blowing in the wind, with no one being held accountable (live and let live) and framed around forgiveness without repentance.
  • The human race, when left to it’s own sinful nature, will be allowed to temporarily corrupt God’s perfect order and destroy itself in the name of personal freedom (Rom 1:24-32). But this false freedom is really Satan’s deception leading to death of one’s belief in the principles of God. This is a disastrous slippery slope leading to the potential abuse of God’s grace and separation from God.
• A high tech society where social media and the desire for celebrity are addictive priorities
  • High tech connectivity is necessary to actually survive in today’s world but when it takes over your life there are consequences
    • A family sitting around the family room texting each other or friends AND/OR checking face book instead of engaging each other in live conversation OR the couple out to dinner sitting across from each other in silence while texting, checking email and/or Facebook has done serious damage to a generation’s ability to engage in deep, committed relationships
      • For example, many folks in this generation are more concerned about how many people and who has ‘friended or unfriended’ them on Facebook than on building REAL, transparent, accountable, other centered, loving, meaningful relationships with 5-10 people
      • Being supposedly ‘connected (friends)’ with dozens or hundreds of people is a self-centered deception by satan to make you feel better about who you are. You don’t need this to feel better about who you are!!!! You simply need to be content with who God created you to be and where you are at the moment. Good grief, stop getting caught up in the gossiping and deception on social media. Stop living lies to keep up with ‘your friends’.  You are wasting the time God has given you to serve His kingdom.

• The breakdown of the family unit
  • The divorce rate has skyrocketed in the past 70 years leading to broken, dysfunctional families, fear of committed relationships, and distrust of the good intentions of others.
  • The failure of fathers to be the head of the household and to not lead their families has seriously wounded the family unit. Worse yet some fathers are absent all together as they are focused on their own selfish interest or have been convinced by the feminist movement that ‘real’/confident men are losers and a threat in the society (wait for it…yes that is the PC police you hear screaming at me). Nothing against equality of opportunity for women in society, but we must strike a balance…it shouldn’t be all or none…winners and losers.

• The desire to have every waking moment of your kids’ lives engaged in some society activity is killing the family unit. Many families are on the go non-stop because they somehow believe allowing kids to play and be creative on their own somehow reflects lesser stature in society or may cause them to fall behind their peers. I realize it may be difficult for some of you to grasp this concept because competition to succeed by the world’s standards and your misdirected desire to ‘make sure your kids get to do everything they want to do’ has been driven into our heads by society. BUT get a grip, choices have consequences and you have to make adult, family centered choices for your kids. Choose to get their lives and your lives back. For those of you who driving your kids onto the hamster wheel in order to have bragging rights with your ‘friends’, please consider the real life implication on your family unit. Get your and your kids priorities in order.

Hopefully this turns on a light for some of you and motivates you to speak up and out about the benefit of American values. We must preserve the constitution and the freedom it affords every U.S. citizen including even those who hate this country. We must be fully aware of those within our own borders and around the world who want to destroy America. We can’t just sit around and allow these people/groups to overrun our country.
