We have all seen it before; a business person who seems to have it all or be on track to have it all is suddenly exposed for illegal or immoral actions. Pride and greed just got the best of him/her motivating the person to choose to succumb to these desires instead leading a moral, upright life. Oh the consequences: trust broken, relationships marred, job/business loss, reputation tarnished, and financial setbacks (Hebrews 4:13).
We have also seen the successful, highly ethical business person with solid character and principles that loses focus on the priorities of life (faith, family and serving the community) and exchanges them for a self focused, self serving strategy. Unfortunately there are consequences here too: trust broken, relationships marred, reputation tarnished, and financial setbacks. (Isaiah 30:12-13)
Are you one of these people…leaving a trail of chaos and pain for self-focused rewards, accolades, and notoriety? Sacrificing things with eternal importance for a short-term success high, ‘the recognition I deserve’, or the ‘big payoff’ is simply an unwise choice.
There is nothing wrong with ambition rooted in living in God’s will, using the gifts God has given you to serve others, and trusting Him to meet your needs. In addition, there is nothing wrong with wealth when it is utilized according to God’s will for your needs and others in the Kingdom. But when wealth and its creation become the driving force in a person’s, negative consequences are right around the corner.
We must choose not to allow Satan’s lies and our inherit sinful nature to put anything before God, our spouse and family, our church, and our community. Sure you have to work hard and always do your best. Yes you should seek to improve your position in life but always with a peace in your spirit. This will be very difficult at times, but I can tell you from years of experience that God will honor the choices you make reflecting his will…not always immediately but be patient. Trust Him!!!!
